Delete CheckBoxes from Folders and Files on Windows 7

  • Open Control Panel and then choose Folder Options.

  • Whenever the Folder Options window opens, you have to select the View tab and scroll down and uncheck “Use checkboxes to choose items” and tap on OK.

That’s all. No more boxes now. Now you can use Ctrl or Shift and tap or hit Ctrl + A in order to select all items. If you do like checkboxes for some reason, then you can always turn them on again.

Turn off Item Check Boxes in Windows 10

If you guys have upgraded to Windows 10, then you can remove the checkbox from icons, too. However, you can still do it through opening Folder Options as shown above, now the process is a lot easier actually.

Open File Explorer and choose the View tab on the Ribbon. In the Show/Hide section, you need to uncheck the “Item check boxes” box.

You can also remove these checkboxes from within File Explorer itself actually.

  • First, you have to open File Explorer. To do this quickly, click Windows+E, or press the folder icon in your taskbar if File Explorer is pinned there. You will also find File Explorer in your Start menu as well.
  • In the ribbon bar at the top of the File Explorer window, you just tap on the “View” tab.
  • Now locate “Item Check Boxes” in the View toolbar and tap on it.

  • If the feature was turned on, the checkmark in the box beside every file will disappear. When you choose files, they will no longer display a checkbox beside them actually.
  • Also, if you’d like to turn the feature back on, return to the View toolbar in File Explorer and then check the box beside “Item Check Boxes” again. Tap on this option whenever you want to hide and unhide the checkboxes actually.
