But, whenever you combine it with another renaming trick (also available from the context menu through holding shift + right-click might I add), it becomes really useful. That is if you use your computer to processing pictures. In order to do it,
just choose a group of files and then press the F2 key. Every file in the selection will be given the same name along with a sequential number following after. If you recently took a trip to Australia and want an instant way to organize photo names. Then this is it, and it doesn’t need any messy third-party software to get the job done. There are probably many other files this might be useful for as well, however, for pictures this is king.
Note: Just in case you want to practice some other authentic Keyboard Kung Fu. Rather than using a mouse to choose multiple files, you can use shift + the arrow keys.
Alternate ways in order to rename the files in a folder one by one
If you want entirely different names for your files, then you can also use other methods rather than the keyboard shortcut above.
You can choose the first file and then tap or click on its name again in order to type in a new name. Use Tab, in order to jump to the next file and then rename multiple files faster.
You can also right-tap or also press-and-hold on the first file in the group you wish to rename in order to open a contextual menu. Then just click or tap on Rename. This basically lets you rename the first file. And then you also can use Tab to do the rest as well.
You guys can also use the Home tab in File Explorer in order to rename multiple files. Choose the file you want to start with and tap on the Rename button. Now rename the first file and then use Tab to instantly select new names for the rest of them too.
